These terms govern participation in the Give-Back Gift Card (Team Fundraising) program offered through Community Marketplace and its Give Back Promotions network. They form part of your Merchant Agreement. Program pricing and reward figures are confirmed in your signed agreement and are subject to venue approval.
About the Program
Give-Back Gift Cards are local gift cards that keep money within the community while supporting charitable causes. Through ‘fundraising codes’, a portion of each purchase is directed to community members, charities, teams, or associations. Local teams and groups (10+ members) — sports teams, charity campaigns, schools, and specialty causes — are onboarded to sell your Give-Back Gift Cards, and funds raised become merchant credit the team spends with you on team meals, pre-ordered takeout, catering, and banquets.
Gift Card Terms & Conditions
- Gift donation proceeds are tracked and allocated via a ‘fundraising code’.
- The function of give-back gifts is to serve the purpose of a donation/gift.
- The promotional value of the gift will expire after the specified period; the amount paid does not expire, subject to applicable law.
- Donation terms are set by the owner of the ‘fundraising code’.
- Redeemable at specified local merchant locations only.
- Each local merchant manages and creates the terms and conditions of use.
- The merchant holds the right to terminate the promotion.
- Gifts are non-refundable for cash; transfer or exchange only where permitted.
- The user of the gift agrees to abide by the outlined terms and conditions.
- Local fundraising agents can be reached via the website contact.
- Gift Cards are not valid for combination with any other offer.
- Limit 1 per person, 1 per group/table, 1 per visit for redemption; unlimited purchases as give-back gifts. Not valid during holidays.
- Merchants are responsible for the advertised goods or services.
Gift-Card Split & Give-Back
On a $100 card sold at $75: the merchant receives $50 (50% of face value); the fundraising team receives $18.75 (25% of the sale price, held as merchant credit for team meals, catering, and banquets); the remainder is retained by the website affiliate. Funds are shared with the fundraising cause in two ways: (1) a percentage of funds returned via a monetary cash donation, and (2) merchant give-back funds allocated back to partners for services (for example, charity or team banquets, association budgets for takeout and catering).
Merchant Payment & Remittance
Approximately 7 business days after an accepted, signed merchant promotion, it is processed and readied for publishing. After the 7-day refund window, the merchant coupon agreement is exercised on the following schedule. Payments are processed via electronic funds transfer within 7–10 business days of a request, and every 15 to 30 days without request depending on volume, paid out in the week of the 15th and 30th of each month (dates may vary for weekends or holidays). Net remittance amounts are net of credit-card merchant processing fees (typically under 4%) and may be applied to outstanding invoices or subscription fees. 80% of the net is released before the expiration date to cover potential refunds; the remaining 20% is released after the promotion expiry date is realized and the gift card is closed.
Cash refunds are not permitted; only a gift-card exchange, due to the fundraising and donation nature of each purchase. Where refunds are required by law, the refund is the purchase value minus the agreed donation percentage or flat amounts under the fundraising agreement. Community Marketplace acts as a broker/promotional portal to assist local fundraising and does not assume merchant or consumer liability.
Taxes
Federal GST of 5% applies to amounts retained by the program. Applicable provincial tax is added per province (for example HST in Ontario, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland & Labrador; PEI, Nova Scotia rates; and QST of 9.975% in Quebec). Taxes are calculated at the time of each payment using the rates then in effect and are subject to change.
Program Commitment
Community ‘Spiff’ rewards such as gift cards are intended for campaigns and client incentives. Where a partner applies gift cards toward direct invoices or fees, Community Marketplace management determines the correct use of vendor gift cards at Community Marketplace assets. “Give Back Gift Card”™, “Digital Handshake”™, and “Velocity Marketing”™ are marks of the Community Marketplace program.
This page summarizes program terms for review. Final pricing, the Give-Back Gift Card purchase, and all binding terms are confirmed in your signed Merchant Agreement, subject to venue approval (including credit), and should be reviewed with qualified counsel.
